It's been almost two years since I've played and I figure to haul my carcass around a couple of parks marred by ugly metal baskets this summer..so, I'm reviewing what discs I have in stock. I also have to wonder what new models have been introduced during my hiatus and how they fly. Anybody keep on top of the new stuff and try it out?

Re: New disc models?
Sun, March 12, 2006 - 9:51 AMThe Wraith was one I saw listed that looked like I might want to try. What other models does it fly like? -

Re: New disc models?
Sun, March 12, 2006 - 10:06 AMThey fly like the most recent long fliers; Valkyrie, Beast, Orc. The only difference is the Wraith seems to have a little more lift at the end of the flight. Your choice of material also has an impact. The more durable stuff (candy plastic or the new star plastic) tend to make the flight path more stable. Start out with the "Pro" plastic, the flight path is pretty straight. -

Re: New disc models?
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 12:24 PMthe wraith all the way!!! has become my primary driver.
here are my top 5 right now:
innova wraith
discraft crush
discraft flash
innova teebird
innova beast
all these are real easy to use. stear clear of discs like the monster, firebird, and roadrunner...very hard to control, only good for real specific shots.
definately go with champion (candy) plastic or the new star line. the pro plastic break, chip, bend, and are only good for the 1st month (if your a daily player). -

Re: New disc models?
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 12:38 PMA disc I recently acquired that I'm finding to be an asset is the "Starfire" (I believe). It has some serious fade, but thrown right can give ya one hell of a S-curve. Not to mention it is the fastest disc I have ever owned. Zoom-Zoom.

Re: New disc models?
Mon, March 27, 2006 - 6:21 PMSo I go to Oklahoma Joe's to look for a Wraith. There's one, it's black (bad color) and 10g heavier than what I want. Could prove challenging to get a Wraith locally, so I'll probably order online.
Anyway, I run across some golf discs by Aerobie. I drive home and fire up the browser to visit Aerobie's site. They make golf discs now, though each model only comes in a single weight (actually, within a small range). That keeps me from just ordering one to try, though I'm really interested in the Epic--with the variable-width rim. Anybody throw one?
Looks like the boy and I'll be trying out the Wraith (when we can find them), Starfire L, Sidewinder, and Roadrunner from Innova. The Crush and such from Discraft will have to wait until the next round of testing! -

Re: New disc models?
Wed, July 12, 2006 - 7:32 PMlook for a DX or a pro wraith
the TEE REX is available in DX plastic too- far less stable than the candy TREX and fast as all hell
I knew a guy who could thumb one of those aerobie epics over 600 feet, but his elbow hurt too much and that was that for the epic.
It should be noted that no pros throw aerobies.
I like ORCs.

Re: New disc models?
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:29 PMstar plastic is the shit. I bought wraiths in generic, candy and now star. the star plastic holds up well and is what I would call "grippy". My chief complaint about the candy plastic is when it gets wet, it never dries 100%, always some moisture, disc slips outta my hand upon release. -

Re: New disc models?
Fri, June 16, 2006 - 8:11 AMI know that being in Iowa; with the humidity I have to step away from using the candy in mid through late summer. -

Re: New disc models?
Wed, July 12, 2006 - 7:40 PMI am throwing my Star Valkyrie or my Star Sidewinder on about 1/2 the holes I play.
the plastic is VERY durable, and yet unlike candy or CE, it breaks in relatively rapidly, "plateauing" at a nice condition.
as far as grip, i disagree that it's any grippier than champion. perhaps if i got it a little wet, but i usually just dry off my disc completely before using it.....
on the subject of grip and new plastic tho, i heard that the DX plastic was reformulated, so i bought a few drivers and whoo-- man you want some nice grippy plastic (on the cheap!) try DX. (VALK, ORC, ROC, WRAITH, TEE-REX, ETC)
